Information For Professionals
This page presents clinical information on rare cancers, contributed by State-of-the-Art Oncology in Europe (START), European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and epidemiological data from the project, Surveillance of Rare Cancers in Europe.
START is an evidence based European ‘information support’ of current clinical approaches to human Tumours.
Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) of ESMO are intended to provide oncology professionals with a set of recommendations for the best standards of cancer care, based on the findings of evidence-based medicine.
RARECARE was the first project on rare cancers and provided a definition of rare cancer, a list of cancers and epidemiological indicators of incidence, survival and prevalence based on population based cancer registries Burden indicators were provided for 186 rare cancers and these information were mainly published in a series of article in the European Journal of Cancer.
